ABOUT
the Friends of Beattie-Powers
The Friends
of Beattie-Powers is a group of Catskill area citizens who are
dedicated to restoring this historic Catskill Village property.
We also develop programs and events at Beattie-Powers Place
for the entire community to enjoy.
HISTORY
of Beattie-Powers Place
James Powers
was a prominent businessman and State Assemblyman who built the
house at Beattie-Powers Place in 1839. The house with sweeping
views of the Hudson River and the state historic site of Olana,
remained in his family for more than one hundred years.
In the early 1990s, Mary Dean Beattie bequeathed the residence
to the Village of Catskill and its residents. She must have
felt a great love for her small Village to leave such a generous
gift. We are grateful for her remembrance.
The Beattie-Powers House is architecturally and historically
significant. The Friends of Beattie-Powers is working on securing
grants and donations to restore both the park and the house.
We hope that when the public sees this beautiful gift left them,
they will support our efforts. Beattie-Powers Place is here
for everyone to enjoy.
